Mother's Day Flower Pots

I have always loved the idea of painted flower pots for a Mother's Day gift, but I get sad thinking about the girls doing a project without me... So last year Ben, Cora, and I painted together and now our new Mother's Day tradition is to have a family flower pot painting session. I buy $1 terra cotta pots (like these from Home Depot or Lowes), lay out the drop cloth, put on some music, and we all get to work. It is fun to see what everyone decides to paint and I can't wait to have a huge collection of painted pots.
This year was extra exciting for me because it was Ida's first time painting. Cora started painting around 18 months, so I knew Ida should start painting soon. Ida ended up loving the project and doing such a good job. She only tried to eat the paint once and was surprisingly clean overall. She observed the rest of us as we would pick up our pot or move it around and followed along so well... Ida is basically a prodigy.

Ben started out with a simple plain white and brownish pot, then added this creepy character. The face creeps me out a bit, but it's growing on me and now I kind of like the weirdness of it.
Cora picked a rainbow pallete and got straight to work. She painted stripes of rainbow around the sides and then took some inspiration from Ben and added a person. Cora told me it was "a zombie with it's leg ripped off"... thank you Cora, so lovely!

We repotted some mini roses that I already have and we'll find something new for Ben's pot. I love looking at these when I stand at my kitchen sink and I love the little memories from our family painting session.

A couple days later, the girls worked on their Mother's Day pot for my mom.

Mother's Day

Cora decided she wanted to spend every second of Mother's day with me, so she woke up around 7:30 with me.  I normally get 2-4 hours of free time before she wakes up, so the day started off a little exhausting.  We made a quick trip to the dog park for Clove to get some energy out.  Cora loved pointing at all of the dogs and saying her version of dog, which sounds something like "gddoggddd".  After the dog park, Cora played while we prepped for Mother's day lunch at my parent's house.  We headed over to my parent's where we ate, played croquet, and chilled around their place for the rest of the day.  Not much else to say about the day so here are a bunch of pictures:
I'm excited we finally got a picture of the three of us even if we aren't all smiling.

Cora Jean and her Aunt Celia
...and her Uncle Rob.  She is normally smiling/flirting with him.

Cora's cousin and Gus

Lots of cuddles with Cora's Honey (grandma)

Happy Mother's Day to all you awesome Moms out there!

PS. I finally opened my Etsy shop since I was getting some traffic to the coming soon 'shop' tab on the top of the page.  I only have a couple things listed and there is lots more to come!  I thought I'd share in case people want to check it out and leave me some constructive criticism (or compliments).  You can get to The Golden Skies Etsy shop through the 'Shop' tab on the top of my page or by clicking here.

It Feels Like Just Yesterday...

It feels like just yesterday...

...that I found out I was pregnant.

...that we were dreaming up names for the little munchkin.  A list that so easily dwindled down to two names.  One for a boy and one for a girl.

...that we went in for the gender ultrasound to find out they hadn't scheduled an appointment for us.  We went on a wild goose chase to get an appointment with their ultrasound technician across town so we could find out the gender that day.  They confirmed our suspicions... it's a girl.  We sat in the parking lot excitedly saying things like "Great goal Cora!", "Cora Jean, go to your room", "Dr. Cora Jean", "Rebound Cora!".  We finally knew it was a girl

It feels like just yesterday...

...that our family and friends were showering us with love and gifts for the baby.  Opening the boxes containing tiny little clothes and trying to imagine our daughter wearing them

...that we were frantically trying to put together her nursery since we were going to the hospital the next day.

...that I was meeting my child for the first time.  We stared into each other's eyes meeting face to face for the first time, but feeling like she had always been there.

It feels like just yesterday...

...that we were strapping Cora into the car for our trip home from the hospital.  Ben was such a careful driver with our precious cargo.  We arrived home to a welcome committee and introduced Cora to her furry family member.

...that we heard Cora's first laugh.  She sounded like a wheezy old man laughing, but it was so precious.  I continued to throw the water bottle (the object of amusement) in the air until she no longer found it hilarious.

...that Cora was sitting up/'talking'/eating/crawling/clapping/dancing/waving/swimming/walking/etc for the first time.

It all feels like just yesterday, but somehow the pregnancy and 1st year have flown by.  There are so many things that I want to remember about baby Cora and so many things that I'm already forgetting. Tomorrow, my little baby turns 1 and I am so looking forward to all of the adventures life has in store for our family.
